Adventure Camp for Blind children SVH-HNAF 2022

Life-skill Development through Nature Study Camp Date: 18-23 December 2022 Over the last three decades SVH has been participating in the annual nature Study cum Adventure Camp hosted by the Himalayan Nature & Adventure Foundation (HNAF), Siliguri at various jungle spots in north Bengal under the able leadership of its Secretary Animesh Bose and HNAF volunteers. During the year under report this Camp was hosted at Murti Tent under the Gorumara Forest Division. 68 children and youths with Vision Impairment were collected from the underprivileged families of local teagardens and migrant labours to participate in this Camp. Earlier a number of children attending these camps were mainstreamed through admission in Blind schools or under Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan general schools whichever was found suitable. Due to shortage of volunteer strength it was not possible for SVH to send trained personnel from Kolkata. Instead Rs 20,000/- (Rupees twentythousand only) was sent to HNAF as a humble token of our participation.

28 July 2023 SVH online research assistance to Blind student Shreya Ghosh

Mrs Shreya Ghosh, PhD student and a regular user of the Society for the Visually Handicapped's Audio Book Library for the Blind, placed a requisition reading material in Bengali for her forthcoming test on issues such as male domination (Pitritantra), Women's Studies (Manavi Vidya) and writings of Professor Sushobha Sarkar on trends of history. Considering the urgency of the requirement material was sent through whatsapp on priority basis through Google search.

Murshed Alam, a visually impaired graduate student currently enrolled at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, Howrah, WB for his BEd course and a former student of Ramakrishna Mission Ashram Residential College, Narendrapur, WB, has phoned to share the joy of his clearing NET exam and obtaining JRF. It is all the more special because none of his sighted peers who are supposed to be of a high merit, could clear the same. Murshed feels indebted to the Society for the Visually Handicapped, Kolkata for the education support extended by the volunteers of SVH to him on a regular basis.
